Writing Across the Curriculum/gtPathways Research Competition

The Writing Across the Curriculum/gtPathways Research Competition, sponsored by the University Composition Program in collaboration with the Provost, the College of Liberal Arts, and the Institute for Learning and Teaching, is designed to enhance student learning and critical thinking and to promote pedagogical innovation through the use of writing in gtPathways approved courses. In particular, the effort is intended to:

  • Improve student learning and engagement with course content and processes
  • Increase and enhance student interactions with classmates and faculty
  • Increase student interest and enthusiasm for their courses and for writing
  • Develop models of writing integration that will be applicable to other courses

Successful research proposals will call attention to challenges that affect writing integration in a course or a sequence of related courses and create a clear inquiry question that, if addressed, would lead to significant improvements in learning and teaching through writing in the course or courses. Award recipients will be designated as Writing Research Fellows. They will meet as a group three times in the spring of 2012 to consider strategies for enhancing writing integration, and will subsequently develop project plans to address the inquiry question they have identified for their courses. All applications must be received by March 1, 2012. Announcement of award winners will be made by the end of March. Writing Research Fellows will share their research progress during the 2012-2013 academic year in reports to be published on the gtPathways and TILT web sites.
