The Graduate Teaching Certificates Program provides opportunities for graduate students to gain knowledge and expertise in key areas related to teaching and learning. Four cetificates are currently offered: College Teaching, Service Learning, Teaching with Technology, and Learning Management Systems. To learn more, visit the Graduate Teaching Certificates Program page. The TILT Summer Conference on Teaching and Learning will be held May 20th and 21st, 2008. The conference theme, "Integrating Critical Thinking into Your Courses," calls attention to the central importance of providing opportunities for students to think critically about the information, ideas, and arguments they encounter in their courses. Registration is free, but enrollment is limited. You can learn more by visiting the Summer Conference page. Our annual Orientation for New Graduate Teaching Assistants addresses key issues related to teaching in classroom and laboratory settings. These issues include the responsibilities and expectations of a graduate teaching assistant, strategies for enhancing teaching and learning, academic integrity, and assessing student performance. The orientation also introduces GTAs to a range of campus resources supporting effective teaching and learning. For more information, view the GTA Orientation page. Opportunities to Design and Teach Online Courses are available through the Division of Continuing Education. These opportunities are offered on a competitive basis. To learn more about this opportunity, visit the eTeaching page. The Teaching with Technology Workshop Series, presented in collaboration with Computer Training and Support Services, explores the uses of technology to support the achievement of learning and teaching goals. Each presentation begins with an overview of a key goal—such as increasing student participation during class, helping students understand complex processes, or engaging and assessing students—and continues with a discussion of technological tools that might be used to achieve that goal. To see a list of upcoming and past workshops, as well as streaming video of past presenations, visit the Teaching with Technology Workshops page. The Institute provides a rich set of Resources on Learning and Teaching, including a Digital Library, a set of links to other Web-based resources, lists of academic and professional journals that address instructional issues, conferences on learning and teaching, and relevant email discussion lists. You can view these resources on the Resources for Learning and Teaching page. |
