This award recognition was instituted in 1992 upon the retirement of N. Preston Davis. Pres served the Colorado State University community creatively and loyally for over four decades. His contributions were many and focused on instructional innovation.

Selection Process

A committee including faculty and administrative professionals will select the award recipient. The award is presented to an individual from among University faculty in recognition the use of technology to further the successful use of instructional innovation or the significant encouragement thereof. If a unit within Colorado State University is nominated, a second award may be granted for a submission that the committee determines is exemplary. The technological innovation may be at any instructional level, credit or non-credit instructional offerings, and resident or off-campus instruction. Nominations should include the following:

Section A:

  • evidence of the innovative nature of the technology-based instructional improvement
  • innovative implementation of educational technologies

Section B:

  • enhanced effectiveness of teaching and learning from the innovative educational technologies
  • significant course and/or curriculum development
  • evidence of results (examples: evaluative instruments, peer evaluation, student feed back, empirical evidence of results)

Section C:

  • capacity to be replicated
  • dissemination of the technology-based innovation
  • stimulus to others to encourage technology-based instructional innovation
  • willingness to share ideas freely within the educational community

Nomination Process

Nominations may be submitted by any member of the faculty or staff. The official call for nominations will occur at the beginning of the spring semester. The nomination is limited to two single-spaced typed pages, using 11 Point Times Roman, no more than two one-page letters of support, and examples of ancillary materials. Note that any information beyond this will not be shared with the selection committee. Include the attached cover sheet with the submission. Please provide five copies of the nomination.

Award Presentation

The individual award consists of a plaque and a $1,000 cash award; the unit award consists of a plaque for the unit. It will be presented during the Celebrate Colorado State activities.
