This session will review the processes used by the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) when resolving informal and formal complaints of discrimination, harassment and retaliation. In addition to information on how to file a complaint with the OEO, an in-depth explanation will be provided about the informal and formal complaint resolution processes including why and when each process might be used. The specific steps utilized in the informal and formal processes will be explained with the intent of creating an understanding and awareness of the complaint processes.

Description:
This PDI will focus on the shocking events that occurred in relation to child sex abuse allegations that have surfaced at Pennsylvania State University. University counsel will discuss the facts and allegations related to Penn State as well as the legal ramifications and other consequences of Penn State’s failure to act.
Goals and Target Audience:
With the events that have occurred at Penn State, members of the university community have an opportunity to learn from the mistakes and failures of another institution of higher education. As the title suggests, the issues that have emerged at Penn State provide a cautionary tale. Thus, the goal of this PDI is to discuss lessons learned and to educate CSU employees about their obligations and responsibilities as members of the university community.
