Strong Authentication at Home and at Work
General Campus IT and Technology Tools
Monday, January 11th 2016
We've been hearing for a long time that "passwords are dead." In order to protect ourselves from attack, we’ve had to make passwords longer or more complex. But attackers continue to succeed, and usable alternatives to passwords have been a long time coming. Finally, we have reached the point of common availability and easy use of stronger alternatives for authentication to online systems. Steve Lovaas, IT Security Manager for CSU, will explain the concepts and the technology behind strong authentication technologies, and preview the DUO two-factor authentication system that's being rolled out at CSU.
Goals and Target Audience:
This is a general session that assumes basic familiarity with computers and the internet. Attendees will leave with an increased awareness of the options and issues with multi-factor authentication, multi-step authentication, and the major available technologies on the internet. Attendees will also be shown how to participate in the next phase of implementation of the DUO two-factor authentication system at CSU.
