Plant Select® is a unique collaboration among Colorado State University, Denver Botanic Gardens, and members of the Rocky Mountain Region "Green Industry" (plant nurseries, greenhouses, and garden centers), and focuses on plants designed to provide more beauty with less work in landscapes throughout the high plains and intermountain regions. Session attendees will learn about the Plant Select® program and how to incorporate some of these plants into their urban landscapes.
Goals and Target Audience:
The goals of this session: 1) Inform attendees about the unique regional horticultural program known as "Plant Select®". 2) Describe how the plants in the Plant Select® program can help attendees to be more successful in their landscaping efforts. 3) Illustrate how the plants in the Plant Select® program can be adapted to small-scale urban environments where the traditional "back yard" may be quite small or non-existent. 4 Encourage attendees to visit the Plant Select® website, where they can obtain additional useful information about the plants in the Plant Select® program. The targeted audience: Any CSU employee who enjoys flower gardening and desires to have an attractive and water-conservative landscape!

Commuting to CSU - Travel Training for Bicyclists, Carpoolers and Transit Riders.

Description:
This session provides best practices for commuting to CSU without the use of a personal vehicle. The session will include a presentation about transit, bicycling, and carpooling along with a targeted break-out to identify routes to the University. Parking and Transportation Service will also introduce new employee programs including Emergency Ride Home, Commuter Parking 10-Packs, and Zipcar. Attendees will receive maps of the local transit and bike system.
Goals and Target Audience:
Employees considering a change in how they commute to campus seeking to: 1. Reduce their personal cost of transportation (fuel, insurance, maintenance, depreciation of their vehicle) 2. Avoid searching for available parking on campus 3. Improve their physical and mental health by commuting by bicycle, transit or carpool. 4. Enjoy the social nature of commuting by transit, bicycle, or carpool.

Description:
Colorado State has recieved many accolades recognizing their sustainability efforts, including the status as the only university to recieve a Platinum rating in the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS). In addition, CSU has goals to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This session will provide an update on the strategies in place to achieve that goal and the progress made to date. Remember, the university's footprint is actually made up of our individual contributions so we will explore specific measures that each of us can embrace to reduce our individual impact. Please join us!
Goals and Target Audience:
Faculty, staff, and students should all be interested in how their work here at the university impacts the environment. The goal is to keep the university community informed on progress toward reducing GHG emissions, and how each of us can help.
