In this class you will develop an understanding of who you are as a supervisor by exploring the strengths you bring to the role. In addition, you will build your knowledge of team dynamics, looking at how the team functions and how to enhance performance, and finally, you will explore how your team contributes to this mission of the institution. We recommend you take this class first if you are doing the Supervisor Development Certification, as this provides an overview of the certification program. This foundation course provides an introduction to the four key themes of the Supervisor Training Program: • Self-discovery • Interpersonal skills • Team effectiveness • Systems thinking

Who should attend: Mindset for Supervisors is one of the Foundation Classes for the Supervisor Development Certification Program. Description:
Supervisors play a key role in creating an inclusive work environment. Inclusive Excellence Part I and 2 provide an understanding of diversity and inclusion at Colorado State and examine the impact that unconscious bias may play in the workplace. As supervisors we set the tone and culture of our office, because of this we have the opportunity to create inclusive environments for all employees to succeed, regardless of background. The purpose of this session is to: • Identify the need to diversify and create inclusion in our working environments • Learn foundational principles of diversity and inclusion in general and at CSU • Understand and explore key definitions and concepts • Create opportunities for personal identity exploration • Examine how to identify our own unconscious bias • Recognize ways bias impacts those we supervise, teach, and work with • Discuss strategies to stop bias and stereotypes when they are used.

This course highlights the various aspects of the Public employee/employer relationship, including equal opportunity employment laws, reasonable accommodation, leave management, confidentiality guidelines, and employee rights and protections. CSU employment policies, procedures and practices will also be discussed. Upon completion, course participants should be able to evaluate organization policy for compliance and assure that decisions are not contrary to law. Learning Outcomes: • Define relevant employment laws and fair organizational practices. • Identify employee rights and protections. • Evaluate organizational policy for compliance. • Assess management decisions to assure they are not contrary to law or CSU policies.
