We’re excited to share that the sessions on CSU’s Teaching Squares Peer Observation Program was recognized as one of the top sessions at the 2024 Teaching Professor Conference! This recognition, featured in the conference organizers’ published report, highlights the impact of this program in fostering excellence in teaching.
Teaching Squares brings together groups of four instructors to observe and support each other through a nonevaluative, collegial process aimed at enhancing teaching effectiveness. Since its launch in 2018, over 60 instructors and graduate students at CSU have participated, with the program incorporating the university’s Teaching Effectiveness Framework (TEF) to guide constructive feedback.
The program empowers participants to reflect on their teaching, gain new insights from observing colleagues, and foster connections across disciplines. In addition to improving teaching practices, Teaching Squares has inspired participants to incorporate innovative strategies into their classrooms and build lasting professional relationships.
One participant shared, “I feel empowered to continue evaluating my teaching journey and keeping an open mind for new ideas and approaches.” Another added, “I enjoyed connecting with colleagues from across campus and have a new appreciation for the skills my colleagues bring to teaching.”
This acknowledgment by the Teaching Professor Conference underscores the value of CSU’s commitment to collaborative professional development in teaching.
