Building Course Materials with AI Support: Owning the Process

AI can produce a convincing lesson or problem set in minutes. Whether it can help you build a whole course you would stand behind is a different question. This three-session studio workshop teaches a phased process for doing that: you set the goals, objectives, and assessment; AI helps organize the work, track progress, critique drafts, and write where asked; nothing is student-ready until you sign off. The process comes from a seven-course Precalculus sequence built this way this spring and summer.

Bring a course you teach or want to build. Every activity works for it, and you leave with a drafted process document for that course, a set of templates, and a catalog of how AI-drafted materials go wrong along with the checks that catch each. Expect 60–90 minutes of work on one unit of your course between sessions.

Open to faculty in any discipline. No technical background or particular AI product required, and skeptics are welcome.
