Getting Ready
Research Ready Workshop Series
OURA hosts introductory workshops for undergraduate students interested in research and/or artistry. These are designed for students with little to no experience looking for opportunities at CSU.
What Opportunities Exist at CSU
This is a workshop designed to help students discover and engage with research and creative projects on campus. Participants will learn how to identify opportunities, connect with faculty and resources, and take the first steps toward meaningful involvement in their field of interest.
Finding a Research/Artistry Mentor
This is a workshop designed to help students identify potential research mentors and prepare the necessary materials for mentorship opportunities. Participants will learn to research prospective mentors, craft a compelling statement of interest, tailor their CV, and navigate relevant online training modules.
Research Ambassador Panel
This panel offers attendees an inside look at the experiences of peers engaged in research and creative projects. Panelists will share their journeys, insights, and advice, providing inspiration and practical tips for students interested in pursuing similar opportunities.
Building on Skills
Research Ready Workshop Series
OURA hosts professional development workshops for undergraduate research and artistry students. These are designed for students just getting their feet wet into a research group, those getting ready to present their work, and everyone in between.
Setting Expectations with your Mentor
This workshop is designed to help students establish clear communication and mutual understanding with their research or artistry mentors. Participants will explore strategies for defining roles, responsibilities, and goals while ensuring proper acknowledgment and credit for their contributions.
Building Your Network
This is a workshop designed to help students establish meaningful connections within their academic and creative fields. Participants will learn strategies for networking, seeking mentorship, and creating a supportive community to enhance their research or artistry endeavors
Talking About Research in CV and Cover Letters
This is a workshop designed to help students effectively communicate their research skills and achievements to prospective employers. Participants will learn strategies to tailor their experiences, highlight transferable skills, and craft compelling application materials.
Applying to Graduate School
If you are interested in learning about what it takes to get into the graduate program of your dreams, then this is your workshop.
Library Resources to Plot Your Course Toward Research
This workshop is designed to inform students of available library resources for academic research, papers or projects. Participants will learn about resources available at the Morgan Library and strategies to effectively utilize those resources.
This workshop is being held in collaboration with The Morgan Library.
Presenting Your Research
This workshop is designed to help students create engaging and professional research posters or performances for academic presentations. Participants will explore techniques for effective design, clear communication of key ideas, and capturing their audience’s attention.
CURC Workshops
OURA is excited to host development workshops for undergraduate research and artistry students interested in presenting their research at University Showcases like CURC. These are designed for all students who may need additional support navigating the registration and presentation process. These can be distinguished from other workshops because they are named “CURC Workshop”s.

Description: This workshop is designed to guide students through the process of showcasing their work at campus research events. Participants will learn how to navigate registration procedures, meet submission requirements, and prepare for successful presentations.

Starting from Scratch: Writing an Abstract
Description: This workshop is designed to guide students in crafting clear, concise, and impactful abstracts for academic papers or projects. Participants will learn strategies to summarize their research effectively, highlight key findings, and tailor their abstracts to specific audiences and academic contexts.

Revising an Abstract
Description: This workshop is aimed at helping students refine and polish their academic abstracts for clarity, precision, and impact. Participants will learn techniques to identify weaknesses, improve structure, and ensure their abstracts align with the intended audience and purpose.

Description: This workshop is designed to help students develop concise and compelling summaries of their research for presentations. Participants will learn strategies to clearly convey their key ideas, engage their audience, and make a lasting impression in a short time frame.

Open Office Hours & Practice Sessions
Description: This workshop is designed to provide students with a supportive environment to rehearse their research presentations and receive personalized feedback. Participants can refine their delivery, address challenges, and ask questions during dedicated office hours to ensure they are presentation-ready.
