With new state accessibility requirements now in effect, instructors across campus are seeking manageable, meaningful ways to make their course materials more inclusive.
One of the easiest and most impactful places to start? Headings.
On August 6, TILT will host the Accessibility Skill Sprint: Headings, a one-day event designed to help instructors confidently apply accessible headings in Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, and Canvas pages. These 30-minute, one-on-one sessions will be held in person at the TILT Great Hall (Room 200) and virtually via Microsoft Teams between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Headings may seem like simple formatting, but they play a critical role in helping screen readers and other assistive technologies interpret and navigate digital content. When used correctly, they provide a clear structure that benefits all learners, especially those using assistive tools.
Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop (for in-person sessions) and one or two examples of course materials to work on. By the end of the session, attendees will leave with hands-on experience, practical skills, and the confidence to apply accessible heading practices across their materials.
Whether you’re just beginning to explore accessibility or working toward the Developing level of CSU’s Electronic Accessibility Rubric, this quick, focused workshop is a great way to move forward.
