Syllabus Sprint

Syllabus Sprint on Aug. 6

The syllabus sets expectations for your course. An effective syllabus is clear
and inclusive as well as aligned with the latest University and department
policies. Now is the time to review how well yours communicates all that to
students.

On Aug. 6, TILT and CSU Online will host the Syllabus Sprint,
a one-day event designed to help instructors strengthen the effectiveness of the
foundational document of any course. These 30-minute, one-on-one sessions
will be held in person at the TILT Great Hall (Room 200) and virtually via
Microsoft Teams between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

  • Register for 1:1 consultation via SignUp

A special session on developing generative AI use statements
for your syllabus will be presented virtually from 2 to 3 p.m.

Syllabus Sprint consultants can help you strengthen:

  • Welcoming and inclusive language
  • Course policies and expectations
  • Accessibility and syllabus design
  • Canvas syllabus presentation
  • Alignment between learning outcomes, assessments, and activities
  • Student engagement strategies
  • AI-related course and syllabus policies

Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop (for in-person sessions) and a copy
of the latest version of your syllabus to work on. By the end of the session,
attendees will leave with a syllabus that engages and informs students while
stating course expectations clearly.

Special Virtual Session: AI Syllabus Statements, 2-3 p.m., Teams

Even if you don’t sign up for a one-on-one consultation, you can still join
colleagues from TILT and CSU Online for a practical discussion about
communicating expectations around use of generative AI tools in the classroom.
The goal is to help you develop AI syllabus statements that align with your
teaching goals, disciplinary context, and course policies. You and your
colleagues will explore sample language, discuss considerations for transparency
and student use of AI tools, and leave with ideas for adapting or creating a
statement for your own syllabus.
