Cognitive Load Theory: Using the Science of Learning to Improve Student Engagement and Outcomes

Do you notice students shutting down when you are in the middle of an activity? When you review material, do you sometimes feel like students are learning it for the first time? Do you notice students distracted by electronics and taking very few notes? If so, then this PD opportunity is for you! Come learn how to improve student engagement and success by better understanding cognitive load theory. Application of this theory can include: adjusting PowerPoint design to improve cognition, creating activities that increase exposure to core concepts, improving note-taking engagement, creating intentional electronics policies, and improving retention through in-class activities. All disciplines welcome!
