Community of Practice on Alternative Grading

We are excited to begin our fall Community of Practice (CoP) on Alternative Grading Practices. For those of you who joined us last semester, welcome back, and to those of you new to the CoP, we’re so glad you’re interested, and we look forward to you joining.

To kick off the semester, our first meeting will be on Friday, August 11 from 11:00am – 1:00pm in TILT 104 or Teams. This will be a feedback session for anyone who wants feedback on:

  • alternative grading practices you’ve developed for a course, part of a course or an assignment
  • an idea you have about alternative grading that you’d like to run by like-minded colleagues

If you’re new to the CoP, or if you’re not ready for feedback yet, we invite you to listen and give feedback to colleagues during this session. Please complete this very short survey/sign up (1 minute) by Tuesday, August 1 to let us know how you’d like to participate in this event.

The more we read and talk about alternative grading, the more convinced we are that alternative grading, ungrading, standards-based grading, contract grading, self/peer grading and everything in between support inclusive, student-centered teaching that focuses on learning and growth. And it can be done at the university level.
