Research Panel – Virtual

Event Categories

Are you interested in learning more about undergraduate research opportunities? On Monday, November 14th OURA will be hosting an undergraduate research panel. Panelists will give a brief overview of the research they are working on and share how undergraduate students can become involved. Come ready with your questions about their research and what it’s like to work in their group!

Panelists include:
Shane Kanatous, Professor in the Department of Biology at CSU: My research combines my expertise in exercise and skeletal muscle physiology with molecular techniques to focus on oxygen metabolism; especially on the control and regulation of skeletal and cardiac muscle adaptations to extreme environmental conditions such as hypoxia. The ultimate goal is to enhance our understanding of molecular changes associated with hypoxia and translate these results for therapeutic applications in the treatment of myopathies. Sam Molnar, National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL): Sam received her undergraduate degree in Physics from the University of Denver in 2015 and her Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2021.  Her research interests sit at the intersection of complex networks, power system dynamics, and novel visualization and interaction techniques for data analysis. In her free time she likes to explore nature and make art. Link to NREL: https://www.nrel.gov/

Justin Sambur, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at CSU: I am a passionate chemistry professor working on basic energy science research. My team focuses on solar energy conversion and battery projects. We are a laid back but hardworking crew that is looking for new team members! Jaclyn Stephens, Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at CSU: Jaclyn is a licensed occupational therapist and researcher, with PhD training in cognitive neuroscience and postdoctoral training in pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI). Currently, her research is focused on evaluating return-to-play in high school and collegiate athletes with sports-related concussion. Her work also targets the evaluation and treatment of adults with more severe forms of TBI and other neurological conditions.
