Refocusing on the Human: An Experiment in Redesigning Introductory Classes to Avoid AI

In this session, I’ll discuss ways that I redesigned my introductory philosophy classes in Fall 2025 to exclude Generative AI and other technology-based distractions that interfere with student self-discovery and engagement. I’ll discuss the changes that I made in assessment and class structure, and the positive results of these changes. Finally, I’ll argue that humanities education is more important than ever in the era of AI.
